Pacific Tour #2: Kiribati, Samoa and Fiji
On 20 October I fly to the Pacific for the second ID30 tour of 2026. Three weeks, three countries, one thread: digital identity that governments own.
Kiribati: a new mission
Kiribati is our third assignment in the Pacific, after Papua New Guinea and Samoa. We launch a new mission on the national digital ID program.
Kiribati is 33 islands spread across an ocean as wide as the United States.
Samoa: the ecosystem that will use the digital ID
We continue with the ecosystem that will use the digital ID: the agencies, banks and service providers that will rely on it every day.
Fiji: the regional hub
Nadi is the hub of every regional flight, and a good place to meet the partners who make ID30’s presence in the Pacific last.
When is a national ID done?
A national ID is not done when the card is printed. It is done when a nurse, a bank clerk or a ministry can trust it without calling anyone. That is the work.
Small island states face the same questions as large countries, with fewer people and much longer distances. Vendor neutral advice matters even more there.
Working on digital ID or DPI in the Pacific? I will be in Tarawa, Apia and Nadi. Write to me, let us meet.
